Week 2: GitHub
What is Git?
Git is a widely used free and open source version control. Most programmers interact with git on a daily basis. Version Control is a way for programmers to track and manage changes to documents and computer programs (source code) which allows work collaboration for developers
What is
GitHub is a platform that offers code hosting of version control and collaboration. It allows the user to work on a project together from anywhere. Simply put, a website that hosts repositries online
TERMINOLOGIES
REPOSITORY - a project or folder ; a place where your project is kept.
COMMIT - save your file in git; apply the changes you made
FORK - is a copy of the repository that will allow you to make changes to a project without affecting the original one.
PULL - fetching updates or submit the changes made to the original project or repository
Learning:
Today, I learned to upload an image; just copy the image from any source and paste it in the markdown. You can also click and drag the phtos if the image is locally saved in your computer. I found out how to create links to add a page by writing the title of the link inside [] and use insert the link in the () . My favourite mark down aside from the different headers are underscore before and after the word or sentence to italicise and the two asterisk for bold letters. By the way my youngest who’s only 10 taught me to use the font changer site. He typed Weekly Reflection, choose the font, copied it from the font changer and pasted it to my GitHub .md file. Voila! My repository now has a life! :)
Hmmm… I can try to move further more and see how deep I can go….
🆁🅴🅵🅻🅴🅲🆃🅸🅾🅽:
The first day is testing the water while the second day is dipping slowly into the water. A new platform to learn! I was able to follow the instructions on how to use GitHub but at the back of my mind, what is this!?! What will I write? How will this be useful for me? Am I gonna drown soon in the shallow level of water?
I read the module and did my own research. I was able to create my repository in a website form. I’m hooked! This is what I like! From plain page to a more website-like one. I was able to make different pages through links and was able to consolidate my thoughts. Hmmm… I can try to move further more and see how deep I can go….
