PythIT Jolly!

Python, Informaton Technology and everything in between, I used to fight response but this time, I'm embracing it all with a growth mindset. Fight it, Jolly! And conquer the IT world!

Week 4: Unexpect The Expected

Graph vs Programming

What is Graph?

image

As defned in Oxford dictionary, it is a diagram showing the relation between variable quantities, typically of two variables, each measured along one of a pair of axes at right angles.

In todayโ€™s corporate world, graph is widely used by big companies such as Google, Netflix and Facebook to be abe to know their customers better and provide suggestions and offers based on the userโ€™s preferences and past purchases. This process is called Knowledge Graph; a machine readable representation of knowledge domain, which can be read and processed by human as well as by machines.

What is Video-graph?

The process of capturing on electronic media or device the moving objects or images. Below is an example of the videograph activity with my kids:

What is Programming?

The act or process of writing computation specific to the program desired. It usually starts by plotting and building a computer program which is executable. It involves a lot of tasks such as generating, profiling accuracy and resource consumption and implementation of algorithms, analysis and logic demonstration.

Learning:

Whatโ€™s my take for today? Iโ€™ve known graph since I was in primary erhaps. A visual representation of data but in todayโ€™s modern world, it is widely used in business not only to see how the sales are going up or down but also to learn more about the customers through what we call Knowledge graph. Itโ€™s the system used by most known companies like netflix, microsoft or even the health sector to map information and study the correlation of all data. This is the reason most Netflix can suggest movies that you will probably like. Iโ€™ve learned about a new technical term DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) which is a little complicated but by looking at the word itself itโ€™s a graph that is directed but has no direct cycle; an open chain structure of information. Lastly, I encountered Relational Aesthetics where an artists exhibit their work non in the conventional te where artworks are just being looked at. With the relational art, the audience participates that sometimes it confuses whether they are audience or performer. What is the connection f all of these with the video-graph activity? We did a relational art where all the participants are considered artists. If we dig deeper and wrote down all the observations, we can come up with a DAG that can also obe used for knowledge graph identifying the correlation of each participants to one another.

Akin to the story that was shared, to survive, we have to understand not to resist but to go with the flow and observe on the things around us so we can see what we can grasp on to help us get through. I donโ€™t have a project yet in mind but I know sooner or later the idea will pop for I donโ€™t have to think of something different and great but, a simple graph around that will allow my creativity to work.

๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ…ต๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ…ฝ:

Time flies! Itโ€™s already the 4th week. One month nearly passed. I am surviving, treading in the water. I am slowly getting the hang of it. I continue to read the module and did more research. Now I am starting to understand, โ€œ or โ€˜ is used for string which is alpha characters. Iโ€™ve learned that indentation is important in Python because it indicates the block of code. I am starting to enjoy and at the same time rack my brain which often made me lost in thoughts.

Today, we are learning something new again. That is good but I feel like everything is piling up. Hearing new terminologies such as DallE and block chain. I have new list to research. But, I can think of it later, Iโ€™d rather focus on the activity to give me a break.

Being the subject of a video made me self-conscious not only on how I will look on the video but also on the thought of โ€œam I going to greatly contribute on the effectiveness of the videoโ€? It also gave me awareness to observe on how people are reacting on the activity which made me notice my self-worth, that without me the project will not be possible for others and vise versa. Itโ€™s a domino effect. I am afraid to ruin it that I was attached to my phone more than to my image.

In spite of it all, I loved the activity as it gave me confirmation of my decision to take the course. IT isnโ€™t my thing but I jumped in because I know that I have to learn to grow with the technology as it will already be part of our lives no matter what.
